Certification Process Changes / Modifications du processus de certification

On behalf of the Executive, Happy New Year!

There are a number of changes we are implementing that will hopefully make life for the organization, beginning with the HP Certification process.

The High Power Certification Process for Levels 1 - 3 is being simplified to improve reduce paperwork, improve certification opportunities and just make life easier for everyone.

Going forward there will no longer be a $5 fee to process certifications. All that will be required is a copy of the completed certification form emailed to Memberships@canadianrocketry.org

As a consequence, we will no longer be sending out Level Certificates automatically. If you desire a certificate they will still be available for purchase on the online store.

Additionally, and maybe more importantly, certification flights can now be performed at non-CAR/ACF launches. We recognize that in may cases it is more convenient to attend NAR, TRA or Launch Canada events and as long as the events are insured, you will be allowed to complete Cert. flights at these events.

Nous mettons en œuvre un certain nombre de changements qui, espérons-le, donneront vie à l'organisation, à commencer par le processus de certification HP.

De plus, et peut-être plus important encore, les vols de certification peuvent désormais être effectués lors de lancements non CAR/ACF. Nous reconnaissons que dans de nombreux cas, il est plus pratique d'assister aux événements NAR, TRA ou Launch Canada et tant que les événements sont assurés, vous serez autorisé à compléter le certificat. vols lors de ces événements.

CRSO

With the end of the term for the current CAR/ACF executive and the start of the new term, I have decided to step down as the CAR/ACF CRSO. It has been my pleasure to serve as CRSO and to sit on the execute over the past several years.

As my last duty on execute, I have nominated André Choquette as the new CRSO and his appointment was unanimously approved. I look forward to working with André as he takes on this new role and with to thank him for his willingness to help CAR/ACF more forward to the future.

Flying RPAS / Drones / UAV at Launches - Voler RPAS / Drones / UAV aux lancements

In recognition of the increasing popularity of drones, officially known as Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS), this policy document has been created to aid Range Safety Officers, Launch Organizers, fliers and drone pilots in understanding where drones can be safely and legally flown with respect to CAR/ACF HPR rocket launches and active ranges.

There is a risk to operations, property and people when operating drones around people in general and when operating drones in conjunction with an active rocket range, the risk goes up significantly.

In short, drones are allowed to be operated at a CAR/ACF launch event at the discretion of the Launch RSO. If the RSO deems the risk to people and operations of drone flights anywhere in the launch and recovery areas, the RSO can deny a request to operate any drone.

In order to operate a drone at a CAR/ACF rocket launch event, the operator must have an Advanced Drone Pilot License.

Au vu de la popularité grandissante des drones, connus officiellement par l’expression “Système d’Aéronef Télépiloté” (RPAS), cette politique a été créée pour aider Ies organisateurs de lancement (LO), les officiers de sécurité de site (RSO), les fuséonautes, et les pilotes de drones à comprendre dans quel contexte un drone peut être utilisé pendant un lancement de fusées haute-puissance CAR/ACF, sur un site de lancement actif.

En général, faire voler un drone au-dessus et autour du public présente un risque opérationnel, matériel, et humain, et quand cette utilisation d’un drone se fait sur un site de lancement actif, le risque augmente de façon significative.

En résumé, à la discrétion de l’officier de sécurité du site (RSO), un drone peut être autorisé à voler sur un site de lancement CAR/ACF. Si le RSO considère l’opération du drone comme étant un risque opérationnel ou humain, dans la zone de lancement ou de récupération, le RSO peut refuser une demande d’opérer n’importe quel type de drone.

Pour opérer un drone durant un lancement de fusées haute-puissance CAR/ACF, l’opérateur doit avoir le certificat suivant, en cours de validité: Certificat de Pilote – petit aéronef télépiloté (VLOS) – opérations avancées

Events Feature

This month’s topic is the events feature on our new site. Events setup is intended for the launch organizer within each club to manage, this is a special role that is assigned by CAR/ACF. A few clubs have their own methods for registration and payments and this feature in not here to replace but to supplement if you choose to use it.

So why use the CAR/ACF events feature,

Front page listing on the CAR/ACF site
Add description and links to Club pages for more information
RSVP to gauge event interest
Event manager can manage RSVP registrants
Auto Announcement emails to CAR/ACF members
RSVP registrant’s reminder emails (only to RSVP registrants for changes and cancellations)
The event registration will show up on the members profile

CAR/ACF is looking for someone with CSS and Java script experience and willing to volunteer some time with MUCH gratitude from the executive. Why? we are setting up a bilingual site, much if not all the code to do this is available through our hosting service but not the work to implement.

We also need translation support for the web pages if you can provide some time, it would be very much appreciated!!

Notre sujet pour le mois d’Avril est la fonctionnalité “Events/Evénements” du nouveau site Internet. La possibilité de créer des événements est prévue pour les organisateurs de lancements de chaque club, et c’est un rôle spécial qui est assigné aux membres éligibles par CAR/ACF. Certains clubs possèdent leurs propres méthodes d’inscription et de paiements. La fonctionnalité du site Internet de CAR/ACF n’est pas là pour remplacer les méthodes de chaque club, mais peut être un ajout utile si vous choisissez de l’utiliser.

Pourquoi utiliser la fonctionnalité “Events/Evénements” du site de CAR/ACF?

Votre événement sera présent sur la page principale du site de CAR/ACF
Votre événement peut inclure un descriptif et des hyper-liens vers les pages de votre club
Une fonction d’inscription (RSVP) qui permet de juger de l’intérêt pour l’événement
Le gestionnaire de l’événement peut gérer les membres inscrits
Le site peut envoyer des courriels automatiques aux membres inscrits (pour les informer des changements et annulations)
Les inscriptions aux événements apparaissent sur la page de Profil des membres

An App to help stay Connected

Now that we have moved to the new membership site there are a few new things members can try out. Over the next months, we will be sharing what they are and how to use them these quick newsletters.

First up

So, what is up with this Wild Apricot thing? Wild Apricot is our new service provider for web services, membership database, events calendar, and other features. One feature, WA has developed an app that links to your information and fellow rocketeers. Changed your email, now you can update that.

For iOS and for Android. Have a look at the Wild Apricot Blog:

With the app and on your profile page in any browser, your CAR/ACF card can be accessed, printed, or just used via the app to show your membership status, certification level, and RI level. This is a replacement for the plastic cards that have been sent out over the last few years.

Hi All

Yes I have to change the administrator name but the great news, a new membership processing site is here!! Coupled with a new look and feel for the webpages.

The old CARWeb will transform to this site soon. Sadly though, Shane's work with built-in automation for document management and auto update of content with bulk data and integrated forum access will be missed.

The rational for this change was to automate the membership processing side of the house, which for the most part has not changed since the year 2000. Some automation has happened, yes but I still get paper, process it and send out paper.

I hope you like the changes and please provide feedback to the Exec on these changes .
