I've been involved with rocketry since I was very young, ventured on to other pursuits when another shiny object caught my attention, married her several years later. Got back into rocketry when getting my son's involved, then I found out how much the hobby changed since the 60's and 70's. I have been participating very actively with the Calgary Rocketry Association from LPR models to HPR. Been managing the clubs equipment since about 1998, designed a mid power launch system with no relays, currently involved in a club project to create a wireless HPR launch system. We all hate loading and unloading tons of wire for each event.
Started helping with the national organization, CAR, as a database slave for David Ross and Max Baines (first term 2000-2004). Created easier to manage database of members, designed new membership cards, certification parchment, and provided membership stats to the exec… Took on the role of L4CC chairman about 2002 or so.
Worked my way up to L4 somewhere in ’99 with a full scale model of an air-to-air Falcon missile. I was part of a team that came together to build and launch Canada’s largest and heaviest rocket on as much NS we could legally stuff into it. Team-O-Canada was formed for this Dauphin project and was a great success along with getting news and documentary coverage. Later Team-O-Canada formed an organization called Atha (access to high altitudes) which was composed of two functions; one was dedicated to amateur rocketry and pushing the edge of rocketry within Canada called Atha Rocketry, the other was setup to share some of the technologies that would be developed to accomplish the goals of the rocketry side and this formed Atha Aerospace.
